Wood Chip Suppliers

Wood chip is timber that has been shredded in a chipper. It can be used in both commercial and domestic boiler systems. GLG farms purchases local, Scottish virgin timber from sustainable sources, chips on site and dries over the two drying floors to produce high quality G30 and G50 chips which we then sell for use in biomass boilers. Our wood chip is accredited through our membership of the BSL scheme ensuring it meets the eligibility criteria of the renewable heat incentive (RHI) scheme. It is currently available to buy in the Arbroath / Angus area and we can arrange delivery throughout Scotland and beyond.

Our wood chip is locally sourced, seasoned and processed, reducing risk of contamination and minimising environmental impact.

The sustainable, locally sourced virgin timber arrives at the farm at around 65% moisture. After being chipped, the wood is tipped onto the drying floors where stirrers ensure that it is dried evenly. The chips are dried until the moisture content is around 22-28%, depending on customers’ requirements, when it is available for sale. It can be dried down to 4% if required. We have two options of quality wood chip available: G30 and G50 both of which are ideal for commercial biomass boilers. Each load of dried wood chip that is delivered from our farm is tested for quality and moisture. This is to ensure that the highest quality of chip has been produced for the customer. The moisture is tested using a biomass meter and oven test.

After the wood chip has been dried to the correct moisture it is put into on-site storage. The storage buildings and surrounding yard have hard-standing concrete floors to prevent any contamination into the chip. GLG farms has the capacity to store over 600 tonnes of dry wood chip ready to go out on demand when required. The on-site weigh-bridge ensures all deliveries are accurately recorded and invoiced to customers.
