Harvest is over, the combine is finished and the grain is ready to dry and store and sell. The last few days of harvest were perfect – sunny and windy to help dry the fields. The East Coast of Scotland is mainly finishing up the arable harvest now, and getting ready for potato harvests. Here in Angus it has been a challenging summer, with a lot of rainfall damaging some crops and making the fields wet and difficult for the tractors and large machinery. It is a relief to have all the hard work safe in the sheds now. We will be drying the grain to make it safe for storage and sale using our biomass boiler powered by sustainably sourced wood chip – very different days to the oil powered grain dryer of old.
